As the World Turns

Some additional and interesting connections between the now defunct USC Elite Sports Academy formerly the Woodland Hills School in Murray, and HR.

The football & rugby coach at USC was Larry Wilson. Larry Wilson has been for years and still is an assistant coach at HR.

The Kiwi import players were registered as students at the very same school for 2008. Do you think HR knew or was this another amazing coincidence? Could be, considering HR claims to have no foreknowledge of how they get here from New Zealand in the first place.

All of the parents who paid tuition for their children with Asperger Syndrome are wondering why the football coach was being paid a very nice salary, more than the teachers, and why their money was spent on busing the football team around the country and to Canada to play football games. Reportedly over $100,000.00. It all fits, very sad situation but given the players what would you expect. True to form. If I was a parent I would be cracking a few coconuts, so to speak.

I have a unique perspective on the relationship between Bob Jones (owner of USC) and HR. I have known Bob Jones' son since we were 7 years old. We attended school together, played football and rugby together. Bob Jones is a real estate developer here in Salt Lake. He develops and builds luxury gated communities netting himself a large fortune. He has plenty of money to run the school and can do so as he sees fit. The school was closed after the UHSAA denied his petition for athletic competition. Why would you run a sports geared school without varsity sports? Bob Jones' son played for HR a number of years ago. The connection is simple Jones has money and HR does not. Larry Wilson was once the varsity football coach at Highland and a very successful one at that. It makes sense that he would coach somewhere. So the connection isn't as cloak and dagger as it would seem.

Also, to solve the import problem and end this whole thing why not have USA Rugby just make a rule that says 0 import players period. Then superior coaching and player skill will take over and Highland will still dominate. One Kiwi can't beat 15 other players unless his name happens to Jonah Lomu.

Derek,

Why don't you make the arrangements for such a pre season game, between Highland and United. Let's dispel or confirm this myth about superior coaching verses 8 import players that played for Highland last year. What do you say?
